Q. How can I be sure that my music and lyrics are safe with Copyright Keeper?
A. A large part of the service we offer our members is based on keeping your songs safe - just in case they get lost. We keep backups in different secure locations ensuring that we can give them back to you at any time.
Q. Why pay a subscription fee, rather than on a song by song basis?
A. As a member you will have access to your own account and profile. You will be able to do a lot more for free than with any other method of copyright registration. We believe that a subscription serves your needs better by helping you keep track of your usage of the service. All of your songs, lyrics, midi files and info essential to evidencing your copyright are editable directly from your account.
Q. I am having problems uploading, what support do you offer?
A. If you have problems with our upload or any other element of our service you can email our support team anytime, and we will try to respond within 24 hrs if not sooner.
Q. How do I prove that the song is mine?
A. By originating or writing a song it automatically achieves copyright status. Proving a song belongs to you is a little more complicated. First you must make sure that you have your work registered as close to the time of creation as possible. It is also recommended that you keep an accurate record of when and who you've played your songs to. Also, by having other work available to demonstrate that the work is in your 'style' (writing is similar to handwriting - unique to each individual), also helps your case further, as does having a record of how you arrived at lyrical/musical content.
Q. How do you help when I get to court?
A. We will provide your solicitor direct with a CD of the works in question, an official certificate stating the date and time that you uploaded your song, and any other available related information. These items will be sealed and signed for.
Q. How secure is my payment and personal information?
A. We use PayPal for all of our financial transactions. PayPal is a global leader in secure online payment method. You can make payments via your Bank Account, Credit or Debit cards without revealing your card numbers or account information to us.
Q. Can I edit my songs once I have uploaded them?
A. Yes and for free! As a subscribed member you will have access to your own account and profile where you will be able to update previously uploaded songs. You will be able to tell when the last updates occurred and which songs you have registered.
Q. Who registers when the song has been written by more than one person?
A. You can either register under the collaborators collective name (i.e. your bands name) or as an individual, and then add the collaborators names as extra song information.
Q. How can I get in contact with you?
A. Ask us anything via the Contact Us page and we will try to get back to you within 24 hours.
Q. Why should I use your service when I can just send my work to myself registered delivery?
A. Our service is cheaper and more comprehensive, and having an external witness (us) will help your case. Also, if you did send yourself your song you would have the responsibility of keeping the letter safe and unopened, and proving that it has not been tampered with.
Q. I have lost my songs, can you get them back to me?
A. Yes. We can give you your songs back as a data CD.The charges are worked out as follows:
The minimum price for a CD is £4.99. Included in the price is one .mp3 and 2 other files of type .txt or .mid. Additional mp3's are charged at 99p each, and for each of these you are allowed two free files of type .txt or .mid. Additional .txt or .mid files are charged at 50p each. Also added is the P&P, currently set at £1.07. Please note that these charges are for retrieving songs you have lost, they are not for providing evidence to a solicitor. The latter incurs no extra charge to the song registration fee and as such it is included as part of our service.
Q. How do I obtain a certificate for each song?
A. Song certificates can be created online. You select the song you want to create a certificate for, and one will be generated for you to print.
Q. What is an Exposure Log?
A. It is recommended that you keep an accurate record of when and who you've played your songs to. In order to help you do this, members are given a unique editable Exposure Log for each of their submitted songs, so they may record who has had access to their material, and when.
Q. How do I acquire more song credits once I have used up my 5 free song credits?
A. You can purchase more credits online, via our site and PayPal, either one at a time, or by making use of our buy 5 get one free offer. Or you may get more free credits by recommending a friend.
Q. What is the 'Recommend a Friend' offer?
A. Once you have subscribed you will be able to Recommend a friend from our Recommend a Friend page. It's really easy, and if your friend subscribes within 30 days, you get 3 free song Credits!
Q. What is the 'Promotional Code' in the Registration Form?
A. We offer some promotions that require a code to be entered into the registration form. This enables us to know the source of the promotion and to process subscriptions with promotional codes correctly. Promotional Codes can be obtained from other websites that link back to our website, or can also be found in some of our advertising.
  • When the user is directed to our website via a link on another website, the promotional code should automatically appear in the Registration form, once the user decides to subscribe.
  • When the code is obtained in another way, the member-to-be will need to enter the code in the registration form themselves.
  • If a member-to-be has a code and uses it as part of the registration process they will have an extra 2 Song Credits added to their account!
