Our Guide to Copyright
Copyright in the UK is automatic. As soon as the work (also known as Intellectual Property or IP for short) is created, you (the creator) hold the copyright. There is no official copyright registration system in the UK.
Here are a number of steps you can take that will help you prove WHEN the work was originated and that it was originated by YOU:
| 1. | Mark your work with the copyright symbol (©), followed by your name and date, to let others know that it is yours, and to deter them from stealing it | 2. | Keep a record of WHEN and WHO you have played your work to (record companies, others artists that may be influenced by your work). | 3. | Send the work to yourself, in an sealed envelope, via registered post or Register your work with an independent witness |
4. | Keep your evidence safe |
